Starting Novemder, 26 we have try to facilitate the installation procedure. Please follow theses instruction according your environments.

This will work only with the MGLToolsPckgs marked as made after 2010/11/26.

If you encounter any difficulties or error during this process check the troubleshooting page and the forum.

Install MGLTools 1.5.6 with Python 2.5

Nightly builds are generated automatically from CVS and contain the latest code with new features and bug fixes. The following nightly builds are available for download:

Mac and Linux

Download the MGLToolsPackage v1.5.6 that matches your computer's operating system from the mgltools website: MGLtools. You can currently run 64bit versions of MGLTools on Linux, but only 32bit versions exist for Mac and Windows systems. If you were already running a copy of MGLTools v1.5.6 from a nightly build earlier than November 5, 2010, you'll need to install a new copy using the .tar.gz version of the installer appropriate for your system. If you're a first time user, just download the standard installer from the left column.

Write down the chosen installation directory e.g. /Library/MGLTools/1.5.6 or /home/usernameLudo/MGLTools-1.5.6 during installation

You need readwrite permission to write the needed files into the MGLToolsPckgs directory, so change your Application and Library folder permissions accordingly.

Windows

    • Install Python2.6.

    • Get the MGLToolsPckgs.zip archive here or above (which is the nightly build archive for MGLTools-1.5.6 available from the mgltools website: MGLtools) extract the archive in the directory of your choice (try to avoid C:\ and anya directory with some non usual character). Try a short path such as C:\Tools or C:\MyTools or C:\Program Files.

    • Check the permission of the directory e.g. you need read/wright access.

    • You should now be able to process to plugin installation.

    • You need the permission to write in MGLToolsPckgs directory, so change the permission accordingly.

    • You will need some administrative privilege to write in the Program Files Windows directory.

Install the ePMV Plugin

For each host, the first step is to setup the MGLToolsPckgs directory. The plugin will ask you to browse of paste the parent directory and not the actual MGLToolsPckgs directory :

  • /Library/MGLTools/1.5.6 (Mac) or /home/usernameLudo/MGLTools-1.5.6 (linux) and not the MGLToolsPckgs directory

  • C:\Tools (Windows) or C:\Downloads or C:\Documents and Setting and not C:\Tools\MGLToolsPckgs C:\Downloads\MGLToolsPckgs etc...

blender

    • Open blender, open the Text windows panel, click on Tex->Open and browse to your MGLTools directory then Pmv/hostappInterface/blender/plugin/ and select blenderPmvScriptGUI.py and click "Open Text File"

    • Click on Text->Run Python Script. Follow the instruction. e.g. the script is asking for the directory where is the MGLToolsPckgs for instance /Library/MGLTools/1.5.6 (Mac) or /home/usernameLudo/MGLTools-1.5.6 (linux). You can type the directory or copy/paste it from a browser/unix terminal (Ctrl+C - Ctrl+V).

    • According your system this should activate ePMV for blender.

    • Next time you will run Blender, ePMV will be availabe under the Script Windows in Scripts->System->ePMV

Cinema4D-R12

    • You need to know where is the plugin directory. If you dont know open Cinema4d and follow these instruction: "At the bottom of the Preferences dialog window is the Open Preferences Folder... button. Program preferences and all other user-specific data (libraries, etc.) are saved to a CINEMA 4D folder named according to the version number in a location defined by your operating system (not in a CINEMA 4D program directory as in previous versions). This location will be opened in your Explorer/Finder window when you click on the Open Preferences Folder...button.".

    • Copy MGLToolsPckgs/Pmv/hostappInterface/cinema4d_dev/plugin to the Cinema4D plugin directory. Rename it to "epmv".

    • Restart Cinema4D if it is open. On windows Vista/7 you need to run as administrator Cinema4D to allow the patch to be applied in the Program Directory.

    • Follow the screen instruction. e.g. the script is asking for the directory where is the MGLToolsPckgs for instance /Library/MGLTools/1.5.6 (Mac) or /home/usernameLudo/MGLTools-1.5.6 (linux).

    • Some step require some downloading so be patient.

    • Restart, you should now see Py-ePMV under Python->plugin->Py-ePMV

Maya 2011

    • You need to know where is the plugin directory. If you dont know open Maya and go to Window->Setting/Preferences->Plugin Manager. You should see now all the plugin directory that are used on your system.

    • Copy MGLToolsPckgs/Pmv/hostappInterface/autodeskmaya/plugin/mayaPMVui.py to the plugin directory of your choice.

    • In the plugin manager click refresh, you should see appear mayaPMVui.py. Click on auto-load and then on load. According your system there will some pacth apply at the first run. And you may need to restart.

    • If everything went well, next time you will run maya a ePMV icon shelf should be in the Custom shelf.
